Probably with Muslims instead of Russians or possibly China in a violent corporate takeover. I don’t know if that would work. It might be more interesting if Canadians invaded since their dollar is stronger than the American dollar which now gives them confidence that they can overthrow us…

Random Musings… February 2, 2008

Cold weather makes me very sluggish. Have a bunch of half written blogs I’m compiling together here…

After watching the first four seasons of The Wire last year, I must say that it’s some of the best television I’ve seen. Things get tied together in an unbelievably way. Going to wait for season five on DVD because I just would just go through withdrawal symptoms waiting a week for each episode for my fix.

Interview with Jet Li

Before youtube, I videotaped a Q&A with Simon Yam when he came to Baltimore, MD. Hear a small piece of that session from 2000.

Has the theory been postulated that the downturn of the market might not be attributed to an imminent recession but due to the lack quality writing… as the writers strike is still going on…

I won’t say I’m a fan of everything JJ Abrams has created but I do appreciate what he’s trying to accomplish with what he produces. Here’s a little insight into his thought processes.

Speaking of Abrams, if you’re a Lost fan, check out the mobile episodes if you havn’t seen them yet.

Don’t Mess with Andy’s Fans January 30, 2008

Andy Lau has always been one of the hardest working entertainers in Hong Kong and if you’re one of his fans, he’s got your back. Here’s the article and accompanying youtube video. Mad props to him. When have you seen a celebrity do that?

The incident happened at Andy Lau’s Mainland China concert tour, its
last stop at Chengdu.
Since the start of the concert the fans were already very
enthusiastic, until the encore segment where it’s was going to be the
last song and dance, everybody stood up and rushed towards the stage.

One particular male fan got through and managed to get onto the front
of the stage to shake hand and give flowers to Andy
When the security and ploice noticed that somebody managed to get onto
the stage and grab hold onto Andy, they immediately went to get him.
Clip from Youtube shows security not only tried to drag him away, they
punched him and kicked him.

Andy, seeing this from the stage, asked them not to take force against
the fan. On the Youtube, you can hear that Andy stopped singing and
says “Stop!” When he saw that they did not respond, he jumped off the
stage to protect that fan. It resulted a chaos as some of the crew
member, security guards and Andy’s personal security guards got into a
fight. In result, Andy could not carry on singing as he personally had
to bring that fan to the back to prevent the security guards from
getting to him.

So Jet Li and Jackie Chan are making a movie. I should be excited about this but from the footage here, it just looks like all the martial arts films from the 80’s and 90’s from Hong Kong repacked into a Hollywood film. And then Jackie speaks in the end…in English. Err….

Anything with a nostalgic fanbase is ripe for motion picture adaptation. If you didn’t know, stuff like G.I. Joe and Knight Rider are in production. So is cult anime Dragonball Z which if you know anything about is a fairly crazy anime with crazed fans. When I first heard about this being made into a live action movie, I was so not interested in the mess that was to come. Stephen Chow is executive producing the movie and is hopefully handling the bulk of the action and effects. Now this sounds interesting.

With the WGA  strike on, internet shows like Quarterlife are trying to take off. There are problems with the first episode but I was more impressed with it than I’d thought I’d be.

Looks like the WGA is starting to picket. Writers are looking to get a better deal out of new avenues of distribution over the next several years. Late night programming will be hurt immediately. I haven’t been watching many of the new television shows programs (watching shows on DVD – currently: Flight of the Conchords-Season 1 and Veronica Mars-Season 1), but no doubt, by the time the end of the fall season arrives, if the strike continues, the quality should suffer noticably.
