Saturday tix sold out early so I could only get tix for Sunday which isn’t bad since there would be less crowds and many of the panels I wanted to check out were that day. Ran into folks from Imaginasian TV and Giant Robot who were two of the media sponsors for the DC APA Film Festival last year. There was more room and things were much better coordinated than last year. There weren’t as many long lines that I had to stand in. Last year, I met Jim Lee, Milla Jovovich, and I swore I walked past Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. This year, I got a sketch from Whilce Portacio, got a piece of artwork from Mori Chack, the designer of Gloomy Bear, and got advice from writers producing scripts for the comic, TV, and film worlds.

I also grabbed some Beard Papa’s creme puffs on the way home. Not a bad day but the drive home was fairly horrid as the fluffy white snow came tumbling down across the upper Jersey Turnpike. Snow became wet snow and slush as trucks began pouring sand the size of pebbles on the road and off my car as I passed by.

The Sickness December 5, 2006

I haven’t been feeling great for the past month and a half. I was sick for a two weeks straight last month. Then I got better, but then I got sick again. Then I got better, then I got sick again. This weekend I decided to see a doctor after a friend went to the hospital for an operation to remove a tumor. The tumor was benign but he only got the x-ray because he had bronchitis several times this year. Guess what the doctor told me…I have bronchitis.

Was able to read a book and watch a few films. Read Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, an author I’ve been meaning to get to for a while now. The book was not what I expected which isn’t saying it was bad but I’ve just finished reading it and still need to digest it. I watched Hard Candy and it was one of the most excrutiating movie viewing experiences ever. I had heard a synopsis of the movie before but was really unprepared for what I witnessed. Difficult to watch but a really smart film that makes you think. Also saw The Inside Man, Spike Lee’s new film. The film was a fairly neat heist film with some strong performances.

If you’re into hipster cool t-shirts, checkout threadless.com. They let the unwashed masses come up with the designs. They choose the hippest ones and make t-shirts with them. Then, they sell a limited amount of those shirts online. If you always had that a cool “Oooh, wouldn’t it be neat if they had a t-shirt that had” idea and don’t have a manufacturing company, you can put your idea online to be scruntinized by thousands of people who will give you the thumbs up or thumbs down. They have contests that seem really worthwhile to young, up-and-coming graphic designers. As a matter of fact, I may try and take a stab at a design or two myself.

There’s supposedly 74 different bands in this picture. Can you catch them all?

Where’s the Band?
